DUNN, N.C. – Kecia Nehring Parker's favorite lottery numbers turned out to be lucky in more than one way. Not only did they win her a prize of nearly $88,000, but her clockwork regularity in playing them enabled North Carolina State Education Lottery investigators to track her down after they took the winning ticket from a convenience store owner accused of trying to steal her jackpot. "I was very surprised," she told The Associated Press Friday. "But it's definitely a good surprise." Dunn police say that when Parker brought the winning ticket into a Pop Mart, about 40 miles south of Raleigh, the store's owner, Sureshbha Patel, told her it wasn't a winner and kept it, later trying to claim its winnings for himself. On Wednesday, Patel was arrested and charged with felony larceny and attempting to obtain property by false pretenses. He was freed after posting $50,000 bond. The telephone at Patel's home in Dunn was disconnected Friday. A person who answered the phone at the Pop Mart store hung up on a request for comment. "I had no idea I had won," Parker said. "I didn't check my tickets anymore. I just let them scan them in and tell me." Although Parker bought her winning ticket in August during a family vacation in Carolina Beach, Patel didn't bring it into state lottery headquarters until Feb. 8, according to officials. When retailers at locations with lottery sales claim winnings, officials use extra scrutiny in examining their tickets, lottery spokesman Van Denton said. He declined to detail the enhanced security procedures but said the prize was never awarded to Patel. Lottery sales were indefinitely suspended at the Pop Mart in Dunn on Wednesday. "People play the lottery and when they win, they should get their prizes," Denton said. "We take that very seriously." It was Parker's persistence that allowed lottery investigators to find her once they had the ticket. Ever since North Carolina's lottery began in 2006, Parker has played the same five numbers every week, almost always buying her tickets at the same BP gas station on Saturday morning in Dunn. That station — different from the Pop Mart owned by Patel — was able to provide investigators with months of surveillance footage showing Parker come in to play the combination of 9-13-16-17-21 in the Cash 5 game. She says the numbers don't have any particular significance and are just her lucky numbers. Parker, who has two children, plans to put the money aside for college costs. In the meantime, she's also sticking to her regular Saturday routine of playing the lottery — same lucky numbers and all. Follow Yahoo!
NEW YORK – Expedia is making American Airlines flights and fares harder to find on its website after the airline pulled its fares off rival Orbitz. The online travel site on Thursday said of American's action that it "cannot support efforts that we believe are fundamentally bad for travelers." The changes on Expedia include moving American's flight options out of their prime spot on the first page of results. Instead of seeing prices immediately when searching, American's fares are now visible only after choosing both a departure and return flight. Expedia said in a statement that it believes the airline's move to pull its fares from Orbitz will result in higher ticket prices and make it harder for consumers to find deals. American Airlines, a unit of AMR Corp., pulled its flights from the Orbitz travel website on Tuesday in an intensifying dispute between airlines and online travel sites that sell their tickets. Airlines have traditionally paid sellers a commission. American also pays fees to the global distribution companies that provide the flight information. American wants Orbitz to get that flight information directly from the airline, cutting out the global distribution systems. American has said that will reduce costs and also allow it to make more personalized offers to customers such as hotels and car rentals. Experts say American underestimated Orbitz' role in the ticketing process. About a third of Americans book their tickets on independent travel sites. "Online consumers may not even know American's flights are missing. The ones who will gain the most here are American's competitors United, Southwest and others," said Kevin Mitchell, chairman of the Business Travel Coalition, which represents corporate travel buyers. A spokesman for American, which is based in Dallas, wasn't immediately available for comment. Follow Yahoo! News on Twitter , become a fan on Facebook

Ever have a sh*tty job that you wanted to complain about in a weekly submission-based column named after Blink-182 lyrics? Send your submissions to worksuxiknow[at]gmail.com ! I used to work at this disgusting local fast food joint. I worked with the greasiest guy you could imagine. During my shift, I had to hit the urinals. I then heard a series of grunts and one long drawn out moan, along with the faint sound of skin slapping on skin. I realized that the greasy dude was infact, pleasuring himself during his 15 minute break. It was 9 in the morning on a Tuesday. -Tibbs I work at an off-track betting parlour so I meet some weird people. Yesterday, a crackhead came in and sat down for about 15 minutes and just stared into nothingness. Suddenly, she gets up and walks over to another customer and gives him the stare down for almost a minute without saying a word. She goes back and sits down, proceeds to piss her pants. -Danny I work at a god awful grocery store as a cashier and a couple years ago an older man walked in the store and proceeded to customer service where he demanded to talk to my manager. After about twenty minutes, the guy walked off heated and my manager comes over, dying laughing. He tells me the guy came in and was blaming our store for giving him crabs so he demanded we watch the tape of yesterday to see if anybody threw the crabs on him. His explanation for the whole thing was "I came here yesterday without crabs and today I have crabs." I wish I could have watched the tape. -Anonymous I work at a Box Office at a Theatre in Toronto, and a woman was calling in to buy several theatre subscriptions for the coming season. She asked if I could make sure that at least one of the tickets per show was wheelchair accessible, while jokingly adding that she should get the best seat out of the bunch because she is buying for all her friends. I replied with "Of course, you should reap all the benefits, you are doing all the leg work!" There was a silence on the other end as she quietly reminded me that the wheelchair seats are for her, and continued with the rest of the order. The rest of the phone call was more than a little awkward. -Anonymous I work at a sporting goods store and one night a customer called and asked for help in my department, fitness. She said her son is 17 and she wants to get him something he can use to work out, as he is getting into going to the gym after classes and looking fit. I told her simple gift ideas, like dumbbells and kettle bells and she obviously had no clue what she was looking for. She then told me that her husband had gone into his room and found some stuff, then paused. I'm thinking he found some dumbbells or a pull up bar, something for me to go on and give her more ideas, but no. She says they think he's gay. So I responded "...Ok?" To which she responds to by breaking down and crying. I hung up while she was still sobbing. -Bob Royal I have unfortunately worked at a BK, and there was a huge bump to get into the parking lot. One day, we all started smelling something horrendous and couldn't figure out what it was. A guy comes in a say, "there's shit all over the parking lot." Turns out, an RV tried going over that huge bump and busted it's septic tank in the process. Apparently, the RV decided to just drive away, leaving a huge trail of human sh*t across the parking lot. Instead of calling the fire department, our boss made us clean up all the feces with brooms and dustpans and had us pour Pine Sol everywhere to cover up the smell. -Anonymous And the "This Guy Gets It" award goes to... I work at a (clothing store/ restaurant / gas station/ old folks home) and one day a (customer/ coworker/ fat person/ old person) spontaneously (vomited/ defecated/ urinated) all over (themselves/ the floor/ the wall/ the bathroom/ the garbage can) and made a huge mess and then left. It smelled so bad but i had to clean it up because my manager is a jerk and I (was docked a weeks pay/ blamed for the mess/ didn't even get overtime pay). -Jon R.
